An Artist in Residence

It is always a great experience to be asked to be an artist in residence in a gallery. This is my second time in Thornthwaite Galleries. Early in the year I spent a Saturday and Sunday in the gallery. I painted the gallery and the two local postboxes.

Thornthwaite Galleries has been here a long time, I bought my first piece of art here way back in the 80s. I bought a pair of little wooden birds when we were first married.

Last time I met a fellow postbox enthusiast who bought my postboxes of Cumbria original.

I also met a couple from Liverpool who agreed to take my postbox postcard of the Liverpool Special back home to Liverpool to post to me.

The Liverpool Special is a Victorian postbox only found in Liverpool.

I also picked up a commission.

I left some of my mapscapes in the gallery.

I also created cards of the gallery from the painting I produced.

When I returned this time I had almost sold out of my mapscapes so I had quite a bit of restocking to do.

I brought a new painting for the gallery. The painting features the Cumbrian houses associated with Wordsworth. I also brought in my painting of Victorian postboxes in Cumbria.

I started the morning off with an Earl Grey tea and a good browse of the gallery. Every time I see something new and exciting. I started painting my postboxes of the Solway for my exhibition in October in the Shipping Brow Gallery.

I had some nice chats about post boxes and painting them. I am slowly converting people into my cult, I mean my love of the postbox.

And I couldn't believe that the couple from Liverpool were up in the gallery again.

Lunch was the special, Mac and Cheese and very nice it was too. I'm slowly working my way through the menu with each visit. I'll take time here to mention the scones, they are renowned in these parts.

It was quiet today, with the weather being so glorious, people were probably on the fells or in the lakes.

An accident also closed the main road at Threlkeld so that will have affected traffic coming west.

Looking forward to another day tomorrow.

I've shared a couple of my favourites.  Why not come and browse this lovely gallery and treat yourself to brunch, lunch or afternoon tea.
